Runamuk
is for those who want a true ranch experience. We are a
5th generation(since 1886) working cattle ranch
raising commercial cattle and horses year round on 18,000
acres of private land consisting of pine tree forests, open
meadows and sandstone rimrocks. This is a beautiful mountainous
area with plenty of riding up Bull Mountain rimrock and
through open meadows. There is a wide variety of landscape
here! You can experience genuine ranch life by riding horses
and moving cattle in some of Montana’s beautiful country.
Although our main focus is riding, we also offer an array
of activities off the back of a horse to accommodate each
group or family member. We offer great food, horseback riding,
massage,
yoga, hiking, beautiful
scenery and a sanctuary to relax. And don't forget to check
out our
annual
spring roundup
and branding.
Come join us May through June while we calve. This will
include daily riding while new calves are born. And don't
forget to contact us about our corporate
retreats!
We do not require a minimum stay and
you can arrive and depart on any day of the week. We book on
a first come, first served basis as we take a limited
number of guests per week. Since we take less than 10 guests
per week, guests book for truly unlimited
riding and the flexibility to devise their own
schedule.
We are
located 50 minutes north of Billings, Montana.

Testimonials for
Runamuk Guest Ranch...A Working Ranch Experience
"Thank you -
this was honestly the best vacation decision I ever made! In New York,
where everyone is so jet-set to the same old Aspen or Miami scene on the
weekends and you are "nobody" if you don't vacation in Europe, I just cannot
tell you how that does not even hold a candle to this - this is ten times
more fun(!!) and people have no idea what they are missing! I have been in
New York for 9 years and this was "SO" what the doctor ordered, I will be
coming back for sure and bringing my skeptical New York-city slicker-friend,
Sharon (who by the way, told me today at lunch she has never had so much fun
in her life and wants to do this every year.) Both she and my mom can't
stop talking to me about it and thanking me for bringing them along! I also
want to sincerely thank you for opening your home up to us, cooking the most
fabulous meals, allowing us to make our own schedule with a terrific and
very personable Guide, treating us like family, and giving us the run of
your absolutely stunningly beautiful 18,000 acres. It was exactly what I
pictured a "perfect Montana scene" to be and I am still amazed we were there
for an entire week and only saw half of it!! What started out
as a solo vacation, and quickly became a family/ friend vacation, was the
most refreshing fun yet relaxing vacation I have ever had..ever. It was 100
times better than expected and I had expected it to be great from the
start! We are all looking forward to coming back!" Kath, New York
"You provided me the best
vacation of my life and lots of great memories! When I'm riding I
frequently reflect on that week and all the experiences there. You're
wonderful people and I would readily admit I will miss you." Jim, Oregon
"5
days back in North Carolina and I can safely
say for "Me & My Gang" that our
bodies may be here but our minds and spirits
remain on Runamuk Ranch. The most common
question of the week has been "how was
your trip" and I'm still searching for
the words that would even come close to describing
it. In fact my standard answer now is
that you can look at all the pictures and listen
to us talk about it, but til you experience
it, you'll never understand what it was
like. I spent 26 years in the military for the
pure love of travel but none of my overseas
or stateside travels ever left me with that
feeling that I had seen and experienced something
truly remarkable. From that 1st night
sitting under the Montana sky, viewing what
the Supreme Architect of the Universe had created,
until having to say goodbye on Sunday morning
to those who seemed to have been life long friends
cannot be conveyed adequately to other.
You don't provide just a place to vacation you
provide a retreat to renew the mind an soul
and create a lifetime of memories and experience."
Gene Mauldin, North Carolina
"Toby
and Jody Dahl can do it all. They
know how to entertain the oldest to the youngest
person who visits their ranch. I
am 38 years old and I came with my dad who
is 75 years old. We were both catered
to and got to do exactly what our hearts desired,
we felt as comfortable at the ranch as if
we were at home. I wanted to get
as much horse back riding in as I could and
I did just that. There is so much
beautiful scenery, it was just overwhelming. We
ate and ate and ate very delicious food; we
separated cattle on horseback, and as a bonus
we saw some amazing lightening storms. The
vacation was exactly what we had dreamed of
and we would love to come back again. This
small comment doesn't do justice to how much
fun we both had." Rhonda
Davidson & Ken Lowry, OR. "I miss
your golden meadows, gray rimrocks, and unbounded
sky. I often pause in my hectic day and recall
cantering across the high golden meadow while
a herd of horses graze in the distance under
the incredibly blue sky, and wish I were there
again. Your house feels like home; it is a
warm and relaxing place to relax after the
day's adventures. You and Toby could not have
been more perfect hosts. The food was always
delicious, and the discussions interesting.
I learned so much about an area of the country
so different from my home. It was so much
fun learning to drive cattle...how to move
them from one pasture to another, how to move
my horse to make them do what I wanted. My
husband really enjoyed learning to drive a
wagon with a two-horse team. That is something
I never imagined him trying-much less enjoying
so much! Riding with Toby was the best for
me, he knows so much about his land, its history
and its future. He knows the habits of the
elk and deer, as well as the other animals
that cross his land as well as being conscious
of proper stewardship in managing the herds--both
wild and domestic. Toby has such a quiet way
about him, the ability to teach without lecturing.
It makes you hang onto his every word! Jody,
you are the perfect hostess, you are so comfortable
to be with as well as an excellent cook. It
was so thoughtful of you to make me creme
brulee for my birthday! In short, you treated
me like a friend." Susan, AL
"A
dream vacation! I hadn't been on a horse in
ten years and was somewhat nervous before
heading out to Runamuk. The exceptional hospitality
by Jody Dahl and the expertise and knowledge
of her husband Toby make for a winning combination.
I was provided with wonderful horses to ride
that perfectly suited my ability; the lodging
were clean, private and comfortable, the scenery
spectacular and food exceptional. In addition
to wonderful trail riding, horsemanship lessons
and cattle work, I also took advantage of
the other excellent services offered: yoga
classes, trips to Billings, Roundup and the
rodeo. I cannot praise this ranch, or its
owners, highly enough." Adele, England
"It
was the best riding we've ever had."
